My name is Farrah and I grew up in a small town in northern California. I spent most of my childhood and teenage years struggling with chronic illness. It took years of trial-and-error learning about integrative and functional medicine before I was able to make lasting healthy lifestyle changes to fully heal myself. I achieved optimal health and vitality through learning how to cook and eat whole foods (without unrecognizable added ingredients), and exercising appropriately for my unique body type.
I completed my undergraduate degree in Psychology at the University of California, Davis, and earned my Master of Science in Human Nutrition from the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut.
I am thrilled to be part of Valhalla’s team-based functional medicine approach after more than a decade of learning how to cook, eat, and play with nature's bounty! I take a highly individualized approach to nutritional consulting in order to support my clients in setting and achieving healthy dietary goals for lasting change.
“Biochemical individuality” is a term that refers to how the nutritional and chemical make-up of each person is unique, and thus the optimal diet, exercise, and other needs of each person will vary depending on his or her own genetics, nutritional status, and environment.
I believe in “holism,” which recognizes that the function of the human body is affected by different internal and external factors such as, diet, exercise, emotions, stress, relationships, etc. I look at the whole person as a complex system and strive to assist my clients in piecing together their own stories to see where healthy lifestyle changes can be made.
My main focus is on teaching my clients to prepare unprocessed whole foods that are gluten, dairy, and refined sugar-free. I utilize my knowledge of special and medical diets (i.e. Paleo, Mediterranean, Anti-inflammatory, Vegetarian, Elimination, Anti-candida, Macrobiotic, etc.) to design a nutritional treatment plan tailored to fit individual needs. For example, some people who have a strong digestive capacity and optimal blood sugar regulation can tolerate consuming grains such as quinoa, millet, wild rice, or buckwheat; while others with poor digestion, diabetes, and/or allergies need to be started on a grain-free program and/or an elimination diet for optimal health. Some people also choose a vegetarian lifestyle, and we work together to ensure they are receiving the nutrients (iron, B-12, zinc, calcium) they are lacking by recommending specific foods, and/or supplements.
Nutrition and healthy living is my life’s passion and my hope is to help guide, and empower others during their healing journey. My most humble wish is to offer my expertise to anyone out there who wants to learn how to shop, cook, and most of all eat for vibrant health!
In my free time I enjoy spending quality time with family and friends, hiking, horseback riding, being in nature, going to concerts, and dancing. I look forward to working with you!
